Anthony Joshua set for first title defence against undefeated Dominic Breazeale
WE ALREADY KNEW that newly-crowned IBF heavyweight world champion Anthony Joshua would make the first defence of his title at London’s O2 Arena on 25 June.
We now have an opponent.
Joshua will face American Dominic Breazeale who has won all 17 of his professional bouts, 15 of them by knockout.
The former college football quarterback with the University of Colorado did, however, hit the canvas in his last fight against Amir Mansour before bouncing back to secure a stoppage win.
For that reason, 26-year-old Joshua is expected to come through the first defence of his belt since winning it from Charles Martin inside two rounds on 10 April.
Indeed, the British boxer has recorded 16 straight knockout victories since turning professional after winning the Olympic super-heavyweight gold at London 2012.
“I can’t tell you how excited I am to fight again, especially at The O2 which I have made my fortress,” Joshua told Sky Sports.
“My coaches have watched Breazeale for a long time and they knew he was going to be a player in the division and now we get the chance to go war on 25 June.
